My review of Collision Bend Brewing Co.

The views stole the show. I went to the East Bank Flats in Downtown Cleveland to visit Collision Bend Brewing Company. It’s a really stunning location, right on the Cuyahoga River. Sitting on their huge patio on a sunny day just feels so good! Now, I don’t typically go to a place like this… a brewery because I’m not a beer drinker but I went with a couple of friends and we all had a really good time. They had tasty small plates and something for everyone to enjoy.

THE SAFETY MEASURES
First of all, it was sort of COVID-friendly… sort of not. All the staff were wearing masks, and customers were required to wear masks in common areas or whenever they weren’t at their table. However, they didn’t have any Plexiglas partitions at the bar but they did limit and space out the bar seating so it was not as crowded as usual. The restaurant was really busy because it was such a nice day. I’d say they did all of the basic precautions but it didn’t feel like they went above and beyond on COVID measures.

THE ENVIRONMENT
We sat on the patio right next to the Cuyahoga River. Let me tell you, it has such an amazing view. I love watching the boats on the water. It was a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon and the people were out; The place was packed. You can see the bridges, birds… it’s just so nice to be there. I could sit there all day.

THE FOOD
We were mostly there for drinks but we ordered some small plates for the table to share. We got the Pork Belly Pizza ($14) and it was really good. It had grilled pineapple, roasted poblanos, Brussels sprouts, BBQ, Taleggio, smoked gouda, mozzarella, and provolone. So savory and crispy. We also had the Collision Bend Popcorn ($5) which has lime and a Mexican pepper blend and pecorino (my favorite!) and it is so light and flavorful… I LOVE popcorn and this was good. The only weird thing about the food was the “sweet potato hash” we had… it was not a hash. It wasn’t bad but it was all Brussels Sprouts and wasn’t really what I expected. Overall, everything tasted good and seemed reasonably priced.

THE DRINKS
I was impressed with the wide selection of wines they had there. Like I said, I don’t drink much beer. My friends all said the beers were drinkable, solid beers. I drank their “Peniche.” ($12) I’ve been on a tequila kick lately and this just hit the spot. It was made with jalapeno-infused strawberry puree, Sauza Silver Tequila, and fresh-squeezed lemon juice. It was good.

THE SERVICE
Service was mediocre… ours wasn’t the most attentive. Not bad but we were sometimes looking around for or waiting on our server to come back. It was busy.

Overall, it’s just SO fun to be here. The food is good, the beers are solid, the cocktails were nice, there’s a good wine selection, the service was mediocre but the sunshine and atmosphere can’t be matched. Definitely a great place to go with friends or family. I really like it here.
