Caramelized Onion Pizza

When I was growing up, we used to always make this pizza as an appetizer for parties and holidays. Its a family favorite!

  • Store bought Pizza Dough
  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 Vidalia Onions thinly sliced
  • 6 Garlic Cloves sliced very thin
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Dried Oregano
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1/2 Cup Pecorino Romano
  1. 1. Preheat Oven to 375
  2. 2. In a frying pan Melt butter and Oil over medium heat, add onions, garlic, sugar
  3. 3. Lower heat to medium low. Slowly caramelize onions. You want them opaque but very soft. Not brown. 10-15 minutes
  4. 4. While the onions are cooking prepare the pizza dough. In a 10x15 cookie sheet slightly oil the bottom of the pan
  5. 5. Spread out pizza dough with fingers until the entire bottom of the cookie sheet is covered
  6. 6. Taste onions and season with salt and pepper
  7. 7. Top pizza dough with onion mixture.
  8. 8. Sprinkle with dried oregano
  9. 9. Bake for 20-25 minutes
  10. 10. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle top with pecornio Romano cheese
  11. 11. Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
